Hello folks and welcome to GLORIOUS 2016!
Kicking of the New Year is a brand new Pick of the Month. Now, for you folks who have been religiously listening to all of our podcasts, next week, we’ll be featuring a guest and fellow artist that I had been looking forward to talking to for a long time – Wes Molebash. I hope when you have had a chance to download and listen to that particular podcast, you’ll find it as fun to listen to as it was as fun to record – especially for me.
Now, when you listen to the podcast with Wes on it, there may be a chance some of you aren’t familiar with Wes’ work so I thought it would be fun to also feature him as the very first Pick of the Month for 2016 and introduce his art to anyone before they have had a chance to listen to that particular podcast. But before I introduce some of his artwork though, I wanted to talk a little bit about why I was looking forward to participating with Wes on our podcast.
Wes was actually one of the people that inspired my starting Capes & Babes – or, rather, the work that he was doing inspired me to start the strip. At the time, I was working on a promotional comic strip for a now defunct website called Community MX. I was looking to branch out and start a strip featuring my own fictional characters and so I started looking at various webcomic strips I really, really liked as a source of inspiration. I have talked many times how Girls with Slingshots and Evil Inc. were two of those strips but, there was another one I had come across as well and when I found it, I gobbled it up like crazy.
That strip was called You’ll Have That. And it was written and drawn by some dude named Wes Molebash. I don’t know if Wes is still selling any of his You’ll Have That books but they are still listed on Amazon and you can find a sample of Volume One right here.
Anyway, at the time, You’ll Have That was being hosted by Viper Comics and YHT was one of the main strips that was at the top of my webcomic booklist folder. Here are a couple of YHT strips:
Since that time, Wes has gone on to create several other strips – some that I am more familiar with than others. I thought it would be fun to of his other work here as well before highlighting his most current project. Here are some of those other projects:
Like cute kittens and dogs? Wes has done that too…
He’s experimented with more personal stories such as Max vs. Max….
He’s even dabbled in graphic novel size pages:
But his latest project is called:
I would very much liken this to be almost like a You’ll Have That II… there’s a guy married to a gal but they are both different than the two characters in YHT and, oh yeah, there’s a new born baby in the strip too. Okay, so maybe it’s not exactly like You’ll Have That but if you’re a fan of Wes’, I think you’ll see a lot of similarities between the two – at least on the surface level anyway.
In any case, it truly is a strip you should take the time to check out. You can read it by visiting www.molebashed.com.
Tell him Chris sent you. 😉
And thanks for dropping in and checking out this month’s Webcomic Alliance Pick of the Month!
Chris Flick just figured out how to put his photo and bio information at the end of these Webcomic Alliance articles. When he’s not wracking his brain on how to do that, he’s busy being a full time web and graphic designer working in the Washington DC area. When he’s not doing that, he’s working on his Capes & Babes webcomic which he created back in 2007. When he’s not doing ANY of those things, he’s usually at a convention on the east coast of the United States.
Chris just recently published his 1,000th Capes & Babes strips. You can read them all by going to his website, Capes & Babes. You can also visit his woefully outdated portfolio web site at CSF Graphics. And if you’re interested in seeing some of the wild Minion Mash-ups Chris has become known for, you should visit his Pinterest Minion Mash-Up Board. You can also find Chris on Facebook and Twitter by doing a search for “Capesnbabes”.
